Fund Raising at Bishop Ridley
Toddle Waddle
Last term the nursery children completed their very own fundraising achievement. They managed to successfully waddle around the school for their very own 'Toddle Waddle' in aid of Cancer Research. Well done to all those involved and thank you to those who sponsored the children.
Operation Christmas Child

Last Christmas the children of Bishop Ridley collected over 100 Christmas boxes for the charity known as Samaritans Purse. Each box contained a variety of gifts such as soap, toothpaste and toys. Well done and thank you to those who contributed.

In January 2006 one of our dinner ladies, Denise Martin, died of cancer. She was much loved by all members of the school community and in her memory we decided to raise money for the Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice, where she spent her final weeks.
Amongst the fund raising events we held was a sponsored walk on the school field. One of our teachers, Maria Harris, did a sponsored run and we also held a 'Go Yellow’ day.

In six months we raised a magnificent £3000.
Another of our teachers, Tricia Sheridan, is a member of the charitable Order of St Lazarus and this organisation has kindly agreed to donate another £2000, making a grand total of £5000. This will go towards creating a special garden area at the hospice to be enjoyed by patients and visitors. Work on the garden has already begun and it should be ready by the spring, when it will be formally opened.
The cheque for £5000 was presented to Jim Bennett, Chief Executive of the hospice, on Friday 12th January at 10.15am at Bishop Ridley School. The ceremony was also attended by Baron John von Hoff, the Master General of the Order of St Lazarus.
